First Holy Communion

First Communion in the Parish of St Thomas More.

This sacrament is offered to all children of differing educational and physical abilities the priority is that in September they should at least be in Year 3 or above at school. For your child to get the most out of this course they should already be attending Mass on a regular basis and hopefully attending our Children's Liturgy group at the 10am Mass.

We have a wonderful Children's Liturgy group during 10am family Mass, for children from nursery age through to 11 year olds. If the children have been attending this regularly and have attended the many workshops available, they are aware of what happens in Mass and we have a good base to continue their Faith journey.

Throughout the course a register of attendance is taken after Mass. Your child can of course attend any of Sunday Masses if this is more convenient for the family. 5pm Saturday, 10am Sunday or 5.30pm Sunday.

The schedule for the new course is available at the back of the Church by the end of July. This is to give everyone the opportunity to organise swimming or football lessons around the schedule.

The course we follow has 12 children's lessons, 7 parent's evenings. These are always on the same night and at the same time. This is a time for parents to continue their faith journey and learn how the teaching of the Church has changed so that they are best equipped to help their children with this course.

We have a number of Catechists and welcome anyone who whishes to become a regular helper.

We encourage all parents to attend at least one of the children's classes to see how we approach each chapter in their special book and give them an opportunity to take part in the discussions.

Please call or email the Parish office for more details, a catechist will then contact you to answer any queries.
